Low Flow? Try These Tips to Improve Your Furnace (and AC) Airflow
We know you rely on your home’s heating and air conditioning to keep your comfortable all year long. And a healthy system is certainly up to the task. But what happens when your furnace or AC stops blowing strong? If you’re experience weak airflow from your system, we’ve put together some tips on ways you can improve the flow from your home’s comfort system.
Do it Yourself
Unblock and Clean Vents/Registers: Ensure that vents and floor registers are free from furniture, curtains, or other obstructions. Regularly clean vents with a soft brush or cloth to remove dust and debris. Double check that the register or vent didn't accidentally get closed.
Change Your Air Filter: Replace air filters regularly, especially during peak heating or cooling seasons. If it’s time to replace your filter, we’ve got filters for nearly every make and model at THE VERY BEST PRICES. Seriously…we’re cheaper than Amazon, WalMart, and the big-box hardware stores. Start by clicking the big blue “Shop Filters” button at the top-right corner of every page on our site. (Or you can simply click here.)
Clean Return Grills: Clean return grills (usually a long rectangle mounted on your wall) to eliminate dust buildup that can restrict airflow. Make sure there’s no furniture or other objects blocking the grill.
Open Interior Doors: Opening interior doors allows air to flow more freely between rooms, improving overall airflow and temperature consistency.
Seal Leaky Ductwork: If you can see it, check for leaks in ductwork, particularly at joints and seams. Use duct tape or mastic sealant to repair any gaps or cracks. If you suspect a leak in ductwork hidden in finished walls or ceilings, it’s time to call the pros!
