Winter Utility Bills Got You Down? 5 Tips to Start Saving Money Now!

It may feel like winter has been here forever, but we’re not through the thick of it just yet. Utah’s chilly temps can last well in to late March/early April. If the seasonal bump in your utility is something you’d like to keep in check, here are 5 things you can (and should!) do today to start saving!

Pay Attention to Windows

Windows let in lots of light but can let out lots of heat from your home. Make sure all your windows are properly weatherized and sealed to help prevent heat loss and cold encroachment. Repairing small gaps with caulk, adding weatherstripping to parts that move, and using window films designed to insulate can all help.

Check and Replace Filters Regularly

Yep…this again! It’s always a good idea to check and replace air filters regularly, especially during peak heating or cooling seasons. If it’s time to replace your filter, we’ve got filters for nearly every make and model at THE VERY BEST PRICES. Seriously…we’re cheaper than Amazon, WalMart, and the big-box hardware stores. Adjust Your Thermostat

Running the heat only when you or others are home is a great way to save some money. Smart (or programmable) thermostats make it easy to up the IQ of your home’s comfort system. Considering an upgraded thermostat? We can help! When you get a new smart thermostat installed, you may be eligible up to $125 through Dominion Gas and Rocky Mountain power. Smart thermostats make your home more efficient and are much more convenient to use.

Use Your Ceiling Fan to Warm Up (Yes…Really!)

Not just for staying cool in the summer, fans can also be used during the winter to keep warm air off the ceiling and down where want it. It’s super easy to do. With the fan turned off, look for a little toggle switch on the side of your fan (it’s usually on the motor housing, just above the blades). Change the switch to reverse the direction of the fan. If you’re unsure which way the switch should point, simply test it out by turning the fan on to a higher speed and standing below it. If it feels like you are in a windstorm, it’s blowing down. Reverse the switch to get the desired direction. Just remember to switch it back before temps warm up!
