The Ideal Temperature for a Good Night’s Sleep

Good days start with great nights. It is so important to get a good night’s sleep each and every evening and, if you have trouble sleeping through the night, you’ve probably tried a few of the basics like reducing screen time, watching what you eat and drink before bed, and even sleeping pills or melatonin.

But what about checking your thermostat?

The Best Temps for Sleep

According to the Sleep Foundation, the best bedroom temperature for sleep is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Cooler than you thought?

Since our bodies are programmed to experience a slight dip in core temperature in the evening, turning the thermostat down at night can help with temperature regulation and send signals to your body that it’s time for bed.

Now the ideal temps may vary by a few degrees—and from person to person—but most sleep specialists recommend keeping it cool and setting the thermostat between 60 to 67 degrees for the most comfortable night’s sleep.

More Tips for Keeping Cool and Getting the Best Night’s Sleep

Here are a few more tips to get your bedroom to right temperature for sleeping:

  • Close the blinds! This helps reduce heat from building-up during the day.

  • Got a basement? Since they tend to be cooler, a move downstairs may help you get more rest.

  • Open the windows to promote ventilation. (Although, if you’re running your AC during the summer months, it’s best to keep your windows closed.)

  • Take control bedroom’s humidity with a whole home humidifier. PS, we install those too!

  • And like we’ve already mentioned, don’t forget to turn down the thermostat at night. If you want a great deal and help installing a new smart Thermostat, be sure to give us a call!
